thanks for the phone calls this morning. sorry i get so weepy, but this thing has been quite an emotional roller coaster ride. right now, i am very upbeat as i think i've finally found a decent doctor. thank god! i am so glad i pushed for a second opinion. i really get the impression that the first doctor i saw is not well respected at all. and everyone i've asked about my insurance (kaiser) has said that you really have to be your own advocate/doctor, which has turned out to be very true. anyway, i'm pleased to finally be working with a good doctor who seems to be interested in and committed to my recovery. thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. i will keep you posted.

new doctor = michael jaffe, d.o. (physical medicine & rehabilitation).
he says my problem is discogenic -- i have a degenerative disc (L5) with only about 40-50% of the disc remaining. i also have muscular dysfunction in the area. today he gave me an epidural steroid injection (ESI), and i will go back in 4 weeks to see if there has been any progress. i am to continue stretching and mild exercise (walking, swimming). i am to discontinue the chiropractor and accupuncture. if things are not better in a month, he may try an IDET procedure which i need to read up on....
