I saw Toby at church and very briefly chatted about my situation. He agreed that I should give the ESI procedure another chance. He also agreed that IDET did not necessarily work to relieve the pain. Apparently the people who did the initial study had great results, patented the procedure, made a bunch of money, and have since retired. It seems that there is a big difference in success rates depending on the viability of the candidate. From everything I've seen, I would not be the best candidate since I don't have much of a disc left.
We briefly touched on fusion and disc replacement. He didn't think that fusion was the best possible procedure since it puts pressure on the adjoining discs. He reemphasized that disc replacement is a very new procedure, and the medical community simply does not know the long turn effects.
