Day 1 of this detox diet which I somehow let Ralph, Kanoe and the rest of the folks at Mission Hills PT talk me into. They seem to think it will really help my back pain, something about normal food causing inflammation which leads to pain. Of course I am taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) now (ibuprofen), so if I could achieve the same results through my diet, then I reckon that would be a good thing.
The thing is I will pretty much try anything right now if there's even a slim chance that it will make me better (i.e.: relieve my pain and keep me from going under the surgeon's knife). But I have just about exhausted all the possibilities. In fact, this is basically my last straw. Isn't it remarkable that sometimes when all hope is gone, that's when a miracle happens. Well, I am praying that will be the case with my back getting healed.
I just keep thinking back to those 1-1/2 days of pain-free life I had after Kanoe did some pressure point manipulation of my back, and that's what I'm hanging my hat on. She says it didn't "take" because I've got all this other stuff going on. So, we're going to try to get most of the toxins out of my system and then go on a new (gluten-free) diet, and they think I will really notice a difference.
I must say that this diet is not easy. I made an aborted attempt last week which ended when they told me I was cheating by adding fruit and honey to the smoothie and adding butter, lemon, and seasoning to my broccoli. So, this time I'm doing it correctly even if it's brutal. The smoothie is a bit harsh, tasting something like a watered down pina colada mixed with a bunch of chalk. The powder doesn't want to dissolve, so you get to really enjoy the lovely texture. For solid food, I get to eat one green vegetable a day, all day. I can add olive oil and sea salt. That's it! Sounds simple, eh?
Right now my pain level is not too bad. It was probably a 2.5 before I went to PT, and it's a 3.5 now after lying on Kanoe's hand for an hour (she's trying to straighten my pelvis?). My energy level is low and I'm pretty unenthused about life. Basically business as usual for the last year and a half of my existence. I intend to use this blog to document any changes in my physical / mental / emotional condition (hopefully improvements!)
