disc replacement study

article

  • Analysis of postoperative results from patients with monosegmental lumbar disc replacements (TDR) at L4-L5, L5-S1, and bisegmental TDR at L4-L5, L5-S1 showed significant improvement that was maintained throughout the postoperative course.
  • Results following monosegmental lumbar disc replacement procedures (TDR) were significantly superior to bisegmental disc replacement procedures with best results achieved for TDR at L4-L5.
  • Complication rates increased when disc replacement was performed at L4-L5 and was highest for bisegmental TDR at L4-L5, L5-S1 when compared with monosegmental TDR at L5-S1.
  • Analysis of unsatisfactory postoperative results revealed complaints from posterior joint structures (iliosacral joints, facet joints) as the most common reason as was confirmed by fluoroscopically guided spine infiltrations.
