feeling somewhat better

Pain level is down to a 2-3 the last couple of days. I've been getting lots of cracking and popping in my lower back which feels good and I hope is not a bad thing. I had coffee with a co-worker yesterday who was pretty emphatic that the combination of ibuprofen and alcohol can be really harmful for the liver. So, I've decided to cut way back on my liquor consumption. Only had half a glass of wine last night, and I'll be continuing to taper off the booze. I did have to take an extra tramadol yesterday evening, and I can easily see myself having to take more of that and possibly vicodin too. Still waiting to hear about my appeal. My mom has said she wants to fly out to be with me for the surgery, but we have not made travel plans due to the insurance uncertainty....

Brent:
I have seen your photos of OB and I've read briefly of your back pain and just wanted to write to encourage you to hang in there and to continue to pursue finding relief for your pain.
I'm 65 years old and live in NJ and work in Phila.
My husband had spinal stenosis (bone (discs) deteriorating where there should be bone, and bone growing where there should be none. He had back surgery in Jan 06 by Dr. Marcotte of the Hosp. of the U. Of PA in Phila. He got relief immediately from the pain, numbness and sleepless nights. He had become really cranky as it got worse. He almost waited too long to have the surgery, but is doing well now.
Secondly, your fight w/ Blue Cross. I also have Blue Cross. Last January (08) I needed a PETSCAN. This is an expensive test and the doctor told me that they usually deny it. Long story, short: It tooke me 2 whole months to get an approval. They denied. I appealed, I called every couple of days, they stalled, and after a month they told me they had no record of me ever calling. I lost my temper, cursed and was so frustrated & depressed. Finally got a person who was sympathetic and moved it along and it was approved. Originally they told me it was for investigative purposes. Duh, yes, isn't that why we have these tests. I had the test and was cancer-free (after 2 bouts the previous year)
Brent, I recgonized many of my feeling of frustration and dispair in your blog and just want to encourage you.
Prayer helps, meditation, exercise (altho in your case, probably take it easy). I'm talking like a mom, I know. The reason I first looked at your photos was because my daughter lives in OB not far from you. I hate it when she is so far away in pain. So know you have someone thinking of you and keeping you in prayer.
