e-mail from Dr. Delamarter's assistant Cheri:
Brent, I am glad that your pain is improving. Neck pain may or may not be related. Because the low back and neck follow the same curves in your body, there is always a possibility that your neck may be compensating slightly for what is going on in your back. But typically, neck pain can be coming from your cervical spine or the musculature that deals with your posture and holding up your head, etc.
In regards to the facet, if you do decide to proceed with having surgery, I think it would be wise to talk to Dr. Delamarter about that issue and be on the same page...It was on the fence especially being just one one side. If you had moderate to severe facet athritis in both of your facets then yes, it would be a contraindication to having the surgery.
My pain after surgery was rough. I was not mentally prepared and also came in with a lot of different medications that affected my tolerance. So I wasn't happy for 6 months. But by one year, no one would know that I had surgery and I am doing great. Am I pain free? - most of the time. But after a long day of surgery, I am sore but who isn't? It was the best decision I ever made and was worth all the pain after surgery for how I feel now..My facets are fantastic...
